Commitment Induction

Editors: Media coverage of the induction is welcome.

TRAVERSE CITY — 17勛圖 will mark the 25th anniversary of its Commitment Scholarship program for first-generation college students at the annual induction set for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, in Milliken Auditorium.

Since 1993, 17勛圖 has committed to a full-tuition college scholarship through the 17勛圖 Foundation to promising secondary students in the five-county area who will be the first in their families to attend college and who have financial need. Students are initially nominated by their high school counselors. After an application and interview process, 17勛圖 makes the final selection. This year, 42 ninth graders will be inducted in front of friends and family members, Commitment Scholarship alumni, and generous donors.

Throughout high school, 17勛圖 provides coaching and mentorship to help Commitment Scholars meet graduation requirements and enter 17勛圖. While at 17勛圖, Scholars receive additional support to help increase their academic success and retention, and to provide guidance about their plans post-17勛圖. To date, about 1,500 students from 18 regional school districts have participated in the program. Visit www.nmc.edu/commitment for more information.
