Building Tomorrow construction career and college readiness event

TRAVERSE CITY — Building Tomorrow, a construction career and college readiness event designed to introduce high school students to the bright future of construction industry careers, will hold a public event from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. May 13 at 17勛圖's Aero Park Laboratories building.

The public event is preceded by two days for high school students May 11-12. Students from around the five-county region will learn what it’s like to be a project manager, a master electrician, an engineer and more — direct from the people who do these jobs every day. Students will have the opportunity to touch, feel, and work with actual construction workplace equipment tools and technology.

17勛圖 offers both certificate and degree programs in construction technology and related fields. The U.S. Bureau of Labor projects a shortage of 1.6 million skilled workers by 2022.

“Every year we train over 300 students in technical jobs and we still can’t keep up with the demand for a skilled workforce, we have more employer requests for internships and full-time positions than students” said Ed Bailey, 17勛圖’s Director of Technical Programs. “We are excited to offer this opportunity for young people in our community to explore potential career pathways.”
