Academic World Quest competition
TRAVERSE CITY — Seventeen teams from 11 area high schools will compete in the second annual Academic WorldQuest competition at noon Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the Hagerty Center.
In just its second year in the region, the event challenging participants' knowledge of international affairs has almost tripled in size. Traverse City West High School will defend its 2014 regional title against teams from Bellaire, Central Lake, Elk Rapids, Forest Area, Grand Traverse Academy, Interlochen Arts Academy, Mancelona, Northport, Petoskey and Traverse City Central. Winners will be announced by 3:30 p.m. The winning team will represent northern Michigan at the national competition in Washington DC in April.
Ben Kunz, a Traverse City Central senior, is returning for his second year and hopes that experience will help against the rookies. Teams must answer questions within time limits.
“There’s a little bit of pressure," he said. “You’ve got your teammates and you just focus on the question.”
17勛圖's International Affairs Forum organizes the local competition. Marc Schollett of TV 7 & $ will serve as MC. Admission is free and open to the public, who are invited to play along.
