Staff HR Policy D-721.00
Institutional Effectiveness Criterion: Culture
Short-Term Disability Policy
The purpose of this policy is to minimize the financial burden on an eligible employee on unpaid leave status of Family Medical Leave (FMLA) when the employee is unable to work due to a serious health condition arising from illness or injury. Short-Term Disability provides paid leave for an employee’s own single serious health condition arising from illness or injury.
Eligibility is determined according to the definition of full-time and part-time regular employees as defined in Policy D-732.00. Employees who have completed 90 days of employment at 17勛圖 and have suffered a single serious health condition arising from illness or injury are eligible for their pay to continue under the provisions of the procedure (D-721.01).
Employees who are unable to work due to work-related illness or injury covered under Workers' Compensation are not eligible for Short-Term Disability.
Part-time employees are paid based on their appointment percent. Qualified employees may request the benefit and must meet the qualifications described in the procedure (D-721.01). Short-Term Disability shall run concurrently with FMLA in cases where the employee is eligible for both.
If any provision(s) of this policy or set of bylaws conflicts with laws applicable to 17勛圖, including the Community College Act of 1966, the Freedom of Information Act, or the Open Meetings Act, as each may be amended from time to time, such laws shall control and supersede such provision(s).
