Tuition Grant Program Adjunct Instructors Policy
The board-authorized grant available to 17勛圖 employees for purposes of defraying the tuition cost of courses offered by 17勛圖 (hereinafter referred to as "tuition benefit") may be applied for and received by adjunct faculty members employed by 17勛圖 and teaching credit courses as follows:
Effective fall semester 1994, all contacts taught by adjunct faculty are logged for each academic year. (Contacts in credit courses only will apply; individualized instruction or other specially arranged courses shall not apply.) The number of contacts accumulated during one academic year are available to the adjunct faculty member as credits of tuition benefit during the subsequent academic year, provided the instructor is still employed as an adjunct faculty member. For example, if an instructor teaches nine contacts in 1994/95, she or he would be eligible for nine credits of free tuition during 1995/96.
The tuition benefit applies to credit courses only, and not to Extended Educational Services courses, individualized instruction, or other special offerings. During the 1995-96 year, the tuition benefit may be used by the adjunct faculty member only. Credits not used during a year may not be carried over into the following year.
DEPENDENTS OF ADJUNCT INSTRUCTORS
Effective fall semester 1996, the spouse and eligible dependents of an adjunct instructor may apply for and receive a grant during the years in which the adjunct faculty member is employed by 17勛圖 to teach credit courses. The grant amount is based on the number of contacts taught the previous academic year. (Contacts in credit courses only will apply; individualized instruction or other specially arranged courses shall not apply.) The grant applies to credit courses only, and not to Extended Educational Services courses, individualized instruction, or other special offerings. Other tuition-restricted awards would be applied first prior to awarding an 17勛圖 tuition grant.
The grant amount is determined by dividing the total semester contacts taught during the previous academic year by 32. This fraction is the percentage of tuition the grant will cover (up to 100 percent). For example, if an adjunct faculty member teaches nine contacts during 1995-96, the adjunct faculty member's spouse and dependents are eligible for a grant in the amount equal to 28 percent (9/32) of tuition during 1996-97, provided the instructor continues to teach credit courses. Credits not used during a year may not be carried over into the following year. At the start of each academic year, a new grant eligibility is determined based on the total contacts taught during the previous academic year.
The process for applying for this grant and for the review and approval or denial of grant applications shall be announced annually prior to the start of summer semester. Proof of dependency status shall be established at the start of each academic year by providing the College with a copy of the instructor's most recent tax return and a copy of the dependent's school schedule demonstrating full-time status.
If any provision(s) of this policy or set of bylaws conflicts with laws applicable to 17勛圖, including the Community College Act of 1966, the Freedom of Information Act, or the Open Meetings Act, as each may be amended from time to time, such laws shall control and supersede such provision(s).
