Staff Policy D-602.02
Institutional Effectiveness Criterion: Champion
Student Admissions and Conduct Expectations
- Admission or continued enrollment may be denied to any person whose past or present actions indicate the potential to disrupt or interfere with the orderly conduct, processes, functions, or programs of 17勛圖, or at any College-sponsored event. All students shall behave in a manner conducive to the educational process and to the standards of performance established by the faculty, administrators, and other members of the College staff. It is expected that all students will demonstrate their respect for the rights and welfare of the College’s diverse community.
- Upon admission to 17勛圖, students shall agree to act responsibly in all areas of personal and social conduct and to take full responsibility for their individual and collective actions. Because learning can only be achieved in an atmosphere free of intimidation and coercion, students shall observe local, state and federal laws as well as the academic and behavioral regulations outlined in the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook, the College catalog, and any other official publications. Violence, threat of violence, disruption, and intimidating or jeopardizing actions are not acceptable behavior. Any individual, student, or group action which results in destruction or illegal occupation of College property, trespass, personal injury, verbal threat or verbally abusive language toward any student, member of staff, faculty or guest of the College may result in the removal of a student from a classroom, College disciplinary action or civil or criminal prosecution, whichever is deemed appropriate for the act.
- The Student Code of Conduct outlined in the 17勛圖 Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook also applies whenever a student is off campus and the College can reasonably show a relationship to its mission and interests such as maintaining good order, protecting the health, safety, or welfare of the College community, preserving the teaching learning environment or preserving its good name and relationships with society and the larger community.
- Responsible for learning the content of any course in which they are enrolled, students may take reasoned exception to data and views offered in the classroom and reserve judgment about matters of opinion. As they evaluate the College and its programs, policies, and procedures, students shall demonstrate critical thinking skills which appeal to reason and do not compromise the academic climate of the classroom, mission, or integrity of the institution.
- Breaches of this policy may result in penalties and/or disciplinary action, or arrest. Students will be referred to the Vice President of Student Services and Technologies for disciplinary action, which may include warning, probation, loss of privileges, suspension, or expulsion.
The Vice President for Student Services and Technologies, in conjunction with the appropriate faculty and staff, is responsible for the development and publication of any procedures or guidelines that may be necessary to administer this policy effectively.
If any provision(s) of this policy or set of bylaws conflicts with laws applicable to 17勛圖, including the Community College Act of 1966, the Freedom of Information Act, or the Open Meetings Act, as each may be amended from time to time, such laws shall control and supersede such provision(s).
