Cadet Organizations

The Great Lakes Maritime Academy is home to the Student Port 150, a member of the Detroit Propeller Club. As an international organization, the Propeller Club is an avenue to network and socialize with people within the maritime industry. The Cadet Propeller Club is involved with many on-campus and off-campus activities and field trips throughout the year.

SNAME is a student lead organization that focuses on leadership, teamwork and maritime industry values. The mission of SNAME is to advance the art, science and practice of naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering and other marine-related professions.

SNAME invites all cadets to join, but especially encourages those studying engineering! We are currently fundraising to organize an engineering-focused field trip such as a trip on the S.S. Badger combined with a tour of a shipbuilding facility. For more information, or to join our group, please email Advisor Ben Minor at bminor@nmc.edu.

The International Shipmasters Association meets monthly and includes current cadets, alumni and guests. The purpose of the Association is to network, offer feedback, and to enhance maritime knowledge among members. In addition, the association encourages and assists those preparing for careers as merchant marine officers. The members have a special mission related to navigation and safety on waters of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway System.
